Don’t You Worry

Don’t you worry about me now, I’m doing okay
Tho’ yesterday was the hardest of days
It comes every year now since he passed through those gates.
I keep his ashes beside me buried in our wedding cake.

Oma still shivers when I tell her this tale
But Oma, this is how his love makes me feel
Oma, she says, bury him in the ground
I say, Oma, no not til life knocks me down

Don’t worry about me now, I’m doing all right
Though I never found that tunnel and its famous light.
I drank all that summer because God cancelled the spring.
Can’t believe what folks say to you when you’ve lost everything
They say, “Spring will come again.”

Oma still shivers…

Don’t try to tell me I shouldn’t I live in the past
‘Cause it is my job and it’s something I’m good at.
Maybe one of these mornings my world will be grey
And I’ll pack up my paint box and my paint it black days.

Oma still shivers when I tell her this tale
But Oma, this is how his love makes me feel
Oma, she says, bury him in the ground
I say, Oma, no not til life knocks me down

Not until Life takes me down
